"(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" was the B-Side to the Monkees smash “I’m A Believer” and it became a hit in its own right reaching #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. It first appeared on the platinum selling, #1 album “More of the Monkees.”

Written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, the song has been covered by many artists including Paul Revere and the Raiders (whose version actually predated the Monkees), The Sex Pistols, Flies, Johnny Thunders, Minor Threat, The Farm, and Six Feet Under. It was also a hit for PJ & Duncan in 1996, when it reached #11 on the British Singles Chart.

It is often described as one of the best psychedelic garage rock songs of all time because of its repetitive, musically simple, but driving chord progression.
